Which place is lawful for you depends on your firm, your regulator and the clients you serve, so you must find that out separately, from your own lawyer or compliance adviser, before you choose.

  • Anywhere: We choose where to keep your data and may move it between countries. Only choose this option if you don't need to follow any rules about where your data must be kept or processed. (in Essentials and Professional and Enterprise)
  • A region: Your data stays in the region you choose. (in Professional and Enterprise)
  • A specific country: Your data stays in this country. (in Enterprise)

Anywhere costs least and starts quickest, a named country costs most; moving later is a paid custom migration.

Questions to ask your own lawyer
  • Does any law or regulator that applies to my firm say where client records must be held?
  • Do my clients, or their countries, limit where their data can be stored or processed?
  • Is it enough that my data is stored in a region, or must it also be processed there?
